FROM the Desk of Rainer & Julie Martens.....

Posted on October 17, 2020

TO: PICTONA MEMBERS

As you most likely know, we will be hosting our first tournament on October 23-25, 2020. For those three days we will be using all 24 courts for most of those days. However, later in the day some of the courts may become available. You may begin to play on a court but if a tournament match is assigned to the court, you’ll have to relinquish it immediately. We will stay open until 10 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (Oct. 23-25).

On Thursday, October 22, tournament registration begins at 3 p.m. and will be held in the Games Room. It is possible that lines may form for registration on the right side of the Welcome Desk, but you will have express entry on the left side every day of the tournament. As is custom in pickleball tournaments, tournament players are permitted to practice on any of the 24 courts beginning at 3 p.m. on Thursday. However, they do not have priority over our members playing, but we encourage you to welcome our tournament players by introducing them to our Open Play paddle rack system which will be in use on all courts.

We also will have six temporary courts set up across the street at the YMCA tennis courts. Tournament players will use those courts to warm up and can use them Thursday if all courts are occupied at Pictona.

COVID-19 GUIDELINES
We will be rigorously enforcing our mask requirement and social distancing. We have a team of Ambassadors who will continually monitor and remind everyone to follow our COVID-19 policies.

PARKING
Our parking team will direct you to a parking spot. The Welcome Desk will be the north entry and we will also have the south gate open Friday - Sunday. We will take temperatures at both locations and if you come to watch, you will need your membership card as we are not allowing non-members to be spectators because of COVID-19.

FOOD
The Kitchen will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 pm. with a more limited menu during the tournament. We will have a second food station called the Pavilion Grill located under the small pavilion next to the SR Perrott Pavilion.

GOOD LUCK and THANK YOU
Please welcome the many players coming from throughout the region. Good luck to all you who are playing in the tournament and a BIG thank you to those of you who have volunteered to help conduct this big event.
