On Thursday, November 19th, the Pictona Garden Club collected and donated a variety of food items for the Volusia Thanksgiving Basket Brigade, a "fun family event where volunteers come together in the spirit of contribution" and "create and deliver Thanksgiving boxes to families in need in our community." Amy Labosco Hall represented the organization, accepted our food donation, and spoke to our Club about the impact this event has on Volusia families. She told us that, each year, the Brigade collects and distributes over 3000 boxes of food in our community to help local residents have a wonderful Thanksgiving feast!
The Pictona Garden Club is proud to have been a small part of this event, and we look forward to participating again next year. Many thanks to Club member Shirley Rose for introducing us to the Brigade, and to Club member Ricki Stofsky for organizing our collection efforts.
We hope the entire Pictona family had a terrific Thanksgiving!
Watch Carmen Ruiz of Beneath the Surface talk with The Kitchen Manager Quintin Nelson and Pictona's Senior Activity Center Director Rynn Goldstein as they talk about all things Pictona.
Do you want to learn how to play Pickleball but aren’t sure where to start? Then Pickleball 101 is for you! The clinic is FREE and you don’t need to be a member of Pictona (Warning: You may become addicted to pickleball and will then want to join Pictona!). Members who are new to the game are also invited to attend a PB 101 clinic.
Our PB 101 class is an hour of instruction during which time you will learn the basics of the game with our capable Pictona volunteer instructors. Classes are limited to 10 or less participants to maximize your opportunity to learn about Pickleball and participate in skill instruction. Under the instructor’s guidance you will be introduced to the soft game of pickleball known as dinking, shown how to volley, given the opportunity to hit ground strokes and instructed on how to serve. You will learn the rules of pickleball as you progress through the class. The culmination of the hour will have you keeping score and playing a game of pickleball! After the hour session you are invited to stay and play on the courts at Pictona for as long as you like that day.
PB 101 participants are also welcome to join us in The Kitchen, Pictona's onsite restaurant, for a tasty meal and cold drink after play. Check out The Kitchen menu here.
We offer PB 101 twice a week. Tuesdays from 9am to 10am and Thursdays from 5pm to 6pm. Check our Events Calendar here to see upcoming dates for PB 101. We will provide paddles and balls for the class or bring your own paddle if you have one. Please wear athletic shoes and comfortable clothing for the class.
We will limit clinics to 10 participants on a first come first served basis. To join us for PB 101 please register here.
