Gentle Yoga

Class Description

Bring your yoga mat and join the Gentle Yoga class at Pictona. Designed for seniors, we will move through classic yoga poses and sequences in a slow and mindful way. Coordinating breath with movement, you will increase flexibility and improve coordination and balance.  See you on the mat!

Instructor Bio

Pamela J. Silvain, Ph.D., RYT 200.  Pam’s inspiration for teaching yoga stemmed from her desire to help her parents stay strong and healthy as they aged. After completing Kripalu Yoga Teacher Training and receiving certification from Duke Integrative Medicine in Yoga for Seniors, she pursued her passion.  She has taught yoga for many years and currently teaches at Gold’s Gym in Ormond and at the Plantation Bay Wellness Center. Several years ago, she added a Chair Yoga certification.  Pam has found through teaching and working with private clients that, regardless of a person’s physical limitations, yoga can relax the mind and body … and help reignite the joy within.

  • Master’s Degree in Human Development, University of Maryland (1981)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, University of Maryland (1980)
  • 20 years as a forensic consultant in psychological, neurological and medical issues related to injury
  • Co-author, The Defense Deposition Atlas
  • Assistant Professor of Psychiatry (honorary appt.), Georgetown University, Dept. of Psychiatry & Law
  • Certification: Kripalu Yoga (Discovery Yoga Center, 2011)
  • Certification: Teaching Yoga to Seniors (Duke Integrative Medicine, 2011)
  • Certification: Chair Yoga (Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga, 2017)
  • 9 years of experience teaching Gentle Yoga and Chair Yoga in the Greater Daytona area

Class Details

When: Gentle Yoga is currently suspended. Please check out our Pilates class on Tuesdays at 9:30 am for an intense workout on the mat. For a gentler stretching class, try Pam's Stretch & Flex on Mondays at 10 am.

Cost: Donations Accepted

What to wear? Comfortable athletic clothing.

What to bring? Water, BYOM (Bring Your Own Mat!)

Maximum Class Size: 20 participants. Registration for each class is encouraged. If a class fills up, priority will be given to participants who have registered using the form below, and walk-ins will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis.
