When to Drop, Drive or Lob

Class overview: Your instructor will guide you in mastering the art of using a single stroke to execute three distinct actions: the drop, drive, and lob. You will learn the importance of striking the ball when the paddle is in a horizontal position, ensuring a follow-through that remains level to the ground. This technique keeps the ball at waist height or below, minimizing your opponent's opportunities for an attackable shot. Additionally, you will discover when to open the paddle face, creating a loft for precise lobs or chip shots over your opponent's shoulder or head.

What you'll learn:

  • Develop the skill to execute soft drop shots at your opponent's feet, compelling them to pop the ball up or mishit, resulting in a potential point.
  • Master the art of confidently driving shots, whether they come from the baseline, transitional volley area, or the non-volley zone line.
  • Acquire the ability to surprise your opponents with offensive lobs or well-placed "chip shots" from the kitchen line.

Class Structure: The class involves participating in various drills and "game scenarios" that simulate real-game pressure, allowing you to practice and refine these newfound concepts. The culmination of the session involves participants engaging in point-based play, applying what they've learned.

Consistency Beyond Class: Regular practice, guided instruction, and strategic drills will undoubtedly lead to enhanced consistency, reduced unforced errors, and heightened muscle memory. Furthermore, these efforts will contribute to strengthening player confidence and developing a resilient game mentality.
